South African Zulu War Medal Roll 1879. History
The Zulu Nation under their King Cetewayo had made war on the troops in Natal, gaining an initial success at Isandlwana. On the 11th of February 1879 an unexpected order was received for the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards to go to South Africa on active service against the Zulus. The Left Wing under Major Marter left Aldershot on the 27th of February followed the next day by the Right Wing under the Command of Lt Colonel Henry Alexander. The Regiment embarked at Southampton in two Steamships ‘Spain’ and ‘Egypt’ arriving at Durban in April 1879.

China War Medal Roll – History and Service Records of the 1st (or) Kings Dragoon Guards. 1860
This book is about the Officers and Men of the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards who fought in the China War of 1860 also known as the Second Opium War. Some of these soldiers were also engaged previously in the Crimean War 1854-56. In 1860 the Kings Dragoon Guards were stationed at Bangalore in the Madras Presidency.
On the 1st of March the strength of the regiment was increased by 58 men from the 12th Lancers, and soldiers from other cavalry regiments, and on that day, orders were received for a wing of the regiment to proceed on service to China.

30th of October 1901. The Queen’s Bays (2nd Dragoon Guards) received orders to hold themselves in readiness to proceed to South Africa on Active Service.
