This book is about the Officers and Men of the 1st Kings Dragoon Guards who fought in the China War of 1860 also known as the Second Opium War. Some of these soldiers were also engaged previously in the Crimean War 1854-56. In 1860 the Kings Dragoon Guards were stationed at Bangalore in the Madras Presidency.
On the 1st of March the strength of the regiment was increased by 58 men from the 12th Lancers, and soldiers from other cavalry regiments, and on that day, orders were received for a wing of the regiment to proceed on service to China.
